Many relationships are created by court order and require annual accounting to
the court with respect to assets and expenditures. The first year the court may
require additional reports, as well. Being appointed as Conservator for another
is a typical limited way of managing some matters. Less formal arrangements,
such as with power of attorney or durable power of attorney, would not require
court filings, accountings or legal fees. The details of these laws vary by the
state, so consultation with an attorney is important.
